It’s easy to get caught in a trend of eating out for dinner, especially when you have so many restaurants within walking distance of your apartment. Though, lately I’d been craving a delicious home cooked meal.
So I did what any 20-something girl living on her own would do, I called my mommy for guidance. She gave me a simple recipe and I was off to the grocery store in search of turkey burger ingredients!
Ingredients (makes 5 burgers)
– 3lbs ground turkey
– diced onion (about 1/5 cup)
– 2 egg whites
– bread crumbs (about 1/4 cup)
– sprinkle of herbs (I used an italian dried herb mix)
– diced garlic (as much or little as you want)
– olive oil spray
In a large bowl, whip up the egg whites into a nice froth. Add in the ground turkey, diced onions, garlic, bread crumbs, and herbs. Then get a bit dirty and stir it all up with your hands. Once you get over the disgusting, brainy feeling, it’s kind of relaxing, I promise! Feel free to throw in anything else you have in your kitchen too! Peppers, cheese, etc. If it goes well with a turkey burger, then toss it on in there.
Spray the bottom of the pan with olive oil and let it begin to heat up. Form hamburger sized patties and plop them into the hot pan. Heat the patties all the way through so the center is cooked and the outside is a little brown.
I paired my burgers with steamed spinach, oven-roasted rosemary sweet potato fries, and a large glass of red wine. And TA DA! Healthy, delicious, protein filled meal :) It looked so good I started eating before I even took a picture of the beautiful finished product, so here is what I had left when I remembered… Whoops
Try it out and let me know what you think!
