Just like most people, I eat healthier when I keep healthy foods in my home. We all know that you can’t just survive on fruits and veggies (we all need a little candy stash somewhere in our home, just in case), but the healthier foods you have on hand, the more likely you will be to eat them.
Here are a few go-to items to always stock your fridge and pantry with. These will help you stay on track and not let mindless snacking (one of my biggest weaknesses) or unhealthy dinner options ruin your eating pattern.
Avocados. My love for avocados is fairly new, but now I put them in, on, and around everything! From toast to salads, by themselves, or on top of a chicken dish. They are filled with potassium and have great benefits to your skin as well.
Chicken. We all need our protein! Chicken is one of the best, most versatile meats you can keep in a fridge (my personal opinion). Throw it in a crock pot, pop it in the oven, or just grill it on the stove. Steer clear of unhealthy sauces such as BBQ sauce or too much ketchup. Try balsamic or some different seasonings (red pepper or herbs) to give it a new, tasty flavor.
Fruit. Put a piece of fruit in front of me and I will eat it. Apples, bananas, peaches, etc. Theses are great snacks and, with the natural sugars, they give you a little kickstart!
Nuts. We all know that too much of a good thing is bad. That is the case with nuts. You can’t sit down and have 7 handfuls and walk away feeling good (too much fat and sodium). But a few nuts are great for you. High in protein and proven disease-prevention.
