This is not my usual type of read… sci-fi books have never interested me. Butttt I kept seeing it on “good reads” lists and…. (I hate to admit this) Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars Instagrammed a picture of it… so I took the plunge, downloaded The Martian by Andy Weir, and gave it a try!
A man named Mark Watney gets left on Mars (don’t worry, I’m not giving anything away) and the entire book is basically a monologue of his thoughts, feelings, and sarcastic comments about the whole debacle. Within the first 5 minutes I was actually laughing out loud, embarrassingly enough.
You can tell the author put in a lot of time researching NASA, JPL, Mars, and everything else in between. Although it’s fiction, I felt as if it could truly have happened. I’ve already recommended it to the boyfriend, my father, and my two best bookworm friends. It’s a pretty easy read and keeps you engaged and extremely entertained, if I do say so myself.
I listened to the book in just over a week. Every day listening intently to Mark’s hysterical rants about Mars rocks, inefficient solar panels, and no where to use the bathroom. I promise you, this book doesn’t disappoint!
P.S. I just switched over to using Audible to purchase and listen to audio books and it’s SO MUCH BETTER than iTunes. First off, they are loads cheaper. There’re many different types of Audible packages, but mine is just $23 per month and I get 2 audio books. So much better than spending at least $25 on each book with iTunes. Plus, their website is much easier to browse for different books, giving you better categories and suggestions based off of what you’ve read before. I can’t recommend Audible enough! They even have a free trial.
