It was the boyfriend’s birthday and all he requested for his birthday dinner was “meat”. In DC, that left hundreds of restaurants to choose from. After extensive researching, review reading, and menu perusing, the birthday celebration location was selected, Del Campo!

The restaurant… “is home to a meat-driven, wine-centric menu that is a product of Albisu’s Latin American roots and travels throughout Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay.”  Yeah, is your mouth watering after that description? Because mine was!

First up, a tasty bottle of cabernet sauvignon with the most delicious bread I have had in a while! They were piping hot little bread pillows, paired with burnt olive oil. One of their themes at the restaurant was “burnt”, and although it sounds odd, it was delicious!

For an appetizer we had smoked tuna tartare with burnt vegetables, quail egg, chives and country bread. It was delivered to our table in a mason jar, still smoking. And let me tell you, we both thought it was the most delicious tuna tartare we’ve ever had.

For the main course, I present to you:
– 14oz Uruguayan “Estancia” grass-fed NY strip steak (x2)
– Crispy chorizo polenta with smoked hollandaise
– Brussels with butternut, pearl onions, and pancetta
– Complementary bone marrow

This picture speaks for itself. The main course beautifully presented on a wooded slab and the steak cooked to perfection (medium rare) with a tasty charred outside. This is the moment when the boyfriend turned to me and said it was the best meal he has had in DC.

We usually don’t get dessert (the boyfriend is a health nut), but it was a birthday so we had to splurge! Nutella doughnuts with grilled banana ice cream :) They were consumed before I could even get a picture of them. You will just have to go and try them yourself!

I can’t recommend this restaurant enough to anyone who loves steak, fine dining, good wine, and a beautiful presentation. The service was amazing, my wine glass was never empty, and they topped our dessert with a candle for the birthday boy. I’m going back on a Sunday for their $45 bottomless brunch and taking my parents here next time they are in DC!

I left fat and happy :) Although this messy snowstorm did set in while we were finishing up dinner… is it summer yet? I miss Florida!
