You know those days when you have a really great run, vs. the days where you feel as if you are dying every extra 0.1 mile you go? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Sometimes it’s just not your day. Your legs are sore from a previous workout or you didn’t get enough sleep the night before. But what you eat before a run drastically affects it too!
It’s not good to workout on an empty stomach, but you need to make sure you fill it with foods that will help your body, not hurt it! Here are some of my go to nibbles before a run.
Nuts
Great source of heart-healthy fats and energy.
Berries
Vitamin C and potassium filled! Plus, the natural sugar gives you an extra boost.
Yogurt
Packed with calcium and protein! But stick to a plain greek yogurt to cut back on unnecessary sugars.
Sliced chicken
Protein packed!
Banana
Can you say potassium? And they help with muscle cramps :)
What are your go to pre-run snacks?
I also chew gum while I run. Not sure if it’s the safest thing to do, but it helps distract myself a bit from focusing on distance or time. Anyone else do this?
What I consume pre run depends on my distance. But the morning before a race it is always oatmeal

Never tried oatmeal before a race day, I will have to give it a go :) Thanks for sharing, Vanessa!
