My best friend, and reading buddy, told me about Goodreads many years ago, and even though I love to read, for some reason I never signed up for it. Four years later I found myself always going to Goodreads for book summaries and ratings. Finally, I decided to sign up!
Here are the coolest things about Goodreads:
1) You have bookshelves.
You make a bookshelf for your “read”, “currently-reading”, and “to read” books. If you look in the bottom right hand corner of my website you will see my Goodreads widget which shows what I’m currently reading. It shows you what it has been rated and once you mark it as “read”, you can rate it and leave a review.
2) Reading challenge.
At the start for 2015 I got an email from Goodreads asking if I wanted to set a challenge for myself for a certain number of books I will read in the year. Of course, I can’t pass up a challenge, so I set a goal of 15 books this year. I’m working on it!
Based on ratings you give different books, books you have read, and books you have on your “to read” bookshelf, Goodreads offers up hundreds of suggested titles to check out! I have gotten lost in this section of the website for hours.
4) Additional features I’m still learning about.
They have giveaways you can enter and “best books of the month” lists. They send out emails of recently released books, and author reviews. They aren’t an overwhelming number of emails either. Just about once a week, which is perfect in my eyes.
So what I’m basically saying is that if you love to read (like I do) and love to explore new authors, titles, and genres, then sign up for Goodreads now! Don’t wait four years like I did. It’s the perfect place to organize virtual bookshelves and select perfect future reads.
What are you reading right now? I’m almost done with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (which I’m LOVING!!) and am looking for a new suggestion!
