We all lead busy lives and can easily get distracted from keeping up with the little things.
Below are eight things I try to do every day and I suggest you give them a try! These aren’t supposed to make you feel like you have a longer to-do list, instead it’s meant to make your day (and other people’s day) a bit brighter.
1. Compliment someone
Think about how happy you are when you have a coworker, friend, or even a person on the street compliment you on something. Whether it’s a presentation you gave or even your shoes, it puts a smile on your face. Next time you look at someone and think “hmm, that’s a cute top”, tell them!
2. Move
Every day you need to move. It could be a quick yoga session in your bedroom or a 10 mile run. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you get your body moving.
3. Fresh Air
You’re stuck inside all day breathing recycled air. NOT GOOD! Take a break from work and go for a walk outside, or even get off one metro stop early and walk the extra couple blocks home. You will be surprised by how much better you feel. Plus, you’ll be completing #2 and #3 at the same time!
4. Text/ call a family member
You love your family, and they love you. But our hectic lives can get in the way of reminding them that you’re thinking about them. Every day, make it a habit to reach out to a family member. Text your sister a “Happy Friday” or give your grandmother a call after work. Just like the compliment, it will make both of your days.
5. Think
Take time away from all distractions to think every day. For just a few minutes, reflect and relax. It could be during a short walk, while you stretch, or in the morning as you have a cup of coffee. Just spend some time allowing your mind to wander.
6. Homemade meal
It’s so easy to grab a granola bar for breakfast, then go out for lunch with coworkers, and finish off your day with dinner at a new restaurant. Eating processed and restaurant food all day isn’t healthy! Try and make one meal each day by scratch. Not only is this healthier, but also less expensive!
7. Be optimistic
It’s so simple to complain about how tired you are, how the day is dragging, or how cruddy the weather is. But why not try to think and speak optimistically? You would be surprised how just thinking a happy thought can change your whole attitude!
8. Set goals
Every day you should have goals you shoot for. Whether to workout to for 30 minutes, write a thank you note, or update your resume on Linked In… the more goals you have set each day, the more productive you can make your day!
Moral of the story: Make every day count.
Brighten your day (and someone else’s day) by following these eight simple tricks. Your health, mood, family, and friends will thank you. I promise :)
Totally doable things and great to keep in mind!

I love this list! Except for I’d replace homecooked meal with Chipotle.
