BOOKWORM LIFESTYLE | Five reasons I love to read

5 reasons I love to read

I’ve been a bookworm all my life, obnoxiously reading under the table at restaurants or getting car sick as I tried to finish one last chapter on a family road trip. At first it was Goodnight Moon, then Nancy Drew, now Gillian Flynn and Sheryl Sandberg.

There are many reasons people read. Some read to find out celebrities’ dirty life secrets, some read to learn more about SEO, and some read to lose themselves in an amazing mystery novel and stay up all night with the lights on because they’re scared (holla!).

Here are the five main reasons I love to read:

1. Great Escape
If you pick the right book, it can be the perfect escape from the real world into a fantasy land. Maybe you’re fighting in WW2, the contortionist in the circus, or a recent college graduate climbing the corporate ladder (that may actually be real life for you though). Whatever the storyline of the novel, it can be a great way to give your real world a little break and escape to any life you select off the bookshelf.

2. Love Affairs
I tend to fall in love with characters when I read. I’m truly invested in their lives as I learn about their past, read about their present, and predict the future. I get so wrapped up in their lives, love interests, and the outcome of different events as I turn each page. By the end of the book I miss the characters so much, it’s what bookworms call a “book hangover”.

3. Quiet Time
Reading is a great way to sit in silence for a while. It’s calming and personal. You get to pick what you read and you can have some quiet time without computers and cell phones distracting you.

4. Free Travel
Books take you to far-off lands. Not only do they give you a sense of adventure, but you learn about places in the world you could never travel to any other way but through the pages of a well written book.

5. Life Lessons
Whether you are reading an educational novel or a celebrity memoir, you learn something.

What’s my plan this fine Monday evening? A glass of wine on my balcony and a book to loose myself in.

The Baby-Sitters Club was one of my favorites as well! Total worth getting carsick over, if you ask me :)
