Some days, like today for example, I sit at my desk wondering how the heck it’s only 3pm…. I begin to daydream about large glasses of red wine (yes, plural)!
The moment this begins to happen and I still have 3 more hours of required productivity in the office, I take action! Here are my four tips to surviving the last few hours at the office. And no, sadly one of them is not sipping on wine in a to-go coffee mug at my desk (although that would be wonderful right now).
1) Create a to-do list
If you make a to-do list of the things you want to accomplish before you leave for the day you can stay focused on the tasks necessary and the time will fly by!
2) Put my phone away
Killing time waiting for the end of a work day by scrolling thorough Instagram or Facebook only makes the day drag on more (I have tried this one too many times). Stay focused on real work tasks and put your distracting phone away.
3) Make fun evening plans
Having something to look forward to after work (like happy hour or a run with friends) will make the hours tick by a bit faster!
4) Grab a cup of coffee
Sometimes time feels like it’s going backwards when you are extremely tired. Grab a cup of coffee and kickstart your energy a bit! It will give you the jolt you need to make it through the last few hours. Then switch out the coffee beverage for a large glass of wine :)
How do you stay focused at the end of a long day when you realize you still have hours longer at the office?…. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday!
I would also love to be sipping on wine right around NOW. I love your suggestions. I also take time to straighten my desk and throw anything unnecessary away…clear space/clear head? And listen to a song (or twelve) to pump me up.

This is too good. I was convinced it was 5pm at 11 this morning. To say I was devastated would be an understatement…

This is very useful! Thank you for sharing.. The concept of “When you are so busy you won’t even realise the time” doesn’t always work. There’s somehow always time to think about end of day for some reason..

I know what you mean… some days (no matter how hard you try) the day will keep on dragging.

Music gets me through. Something fairly upbeat without too much vocal so that I can be motivated, and uplifted. I also try and spread out work – schedule meetings throughout the week so you’re not really busy some days, not so much others. Give yourself non-work tasks to focus on at lunch time – helps see me through!

Spreading out meetings during the week is such a great idea! My Mondays are always filled with back to back meetings. Thanks for the tip :)
