“MEH” BOOKS | Books I didn’t bother reviewing and you shouldn’t bother reading

popular books not worth the read

I’m opinionated, as you can probably tell by now. When it comes to book reviews, I don’t hold anything back. Either I give it a raving review and force all of my friends to read it… or I judge the book, the author, the publisher, and myself for wasting my time reading it.

But what about the books that are just, “meh”?? The ones that are definitely not good enough for a review, but not quite bad enough for a rant on the blog…. those books go here, to the “meh books” post.

Over the last few months I’m sad to say I’ve read one too many books that fall under this category so I want to warn you! Steer clear of these puppies because they are not your friend, no matter how cute the cover is, how many great reviews you’ve heard, or if your favorite celebrity/company has endorsed them (Great example here, sorry TheSkimm).

Here are five recent “meh” books I’ve read that I strongly recommend you pass like a hot potato because they’re just not worth it!

6 books you shouldnt read

1. The Knockoff by Jo Plazza and Luzy Sykes

I’m pretty sure this book was written for 13 year olds, not adults. Not to mention I listened to it on Audible and the narrator had a voice like nails on a chalkboard.

2. Nice is Just a Place in France by The Betches

I (used to) love following The Betches on Instagram because they’re so funny, so I assumed this book would be a riot with a few real nuggets of life advice to take away. False, it was just flat out rude and pointless. Like a never ending stand up comedy routine. I was so mad I ended up unfollowing them on Instagram.

3. The Shell Collector by Anthony Doerr

A collection of short stories, all of which had no real point, connection, or ending.

4. 10% Happier by Dan Harris

I don’t feel 10% happier whatsoever after having read this book… not even 5% or 2%. The whole novel was just a story about trying out different religions and attempting to master meditation. There you go, I just summarized the book for you.

5. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

I’m not sure why so many adults said this was such a wonderful book. It was “meh” and truly I think written for 13 year olds…. just like The Knockoff.

So, moral of the story, skip these duds and pick up this bookthis book…. or these books instead! You’ll love them or your (fake, virtual) money back :)

Any books that you had high hopes for that turned out to be flops?

P.S. Our next book club book was just selected! Have you read it yet??

I just unfollowed the Betches on Instagram, too! I didn’t read their book but one of their latest insensitive posts was the last straw for me!

Go girl! The book ruined them for me… I was thrilled to hit the unfollow button! So glad someone else can understand.
