TRAINING TIME | Getting the right gear for my half marathon

half marathon running gear

I can’t believe I’m about to say this…. but my half marathon in DC is in 14 days! 14 DAYS! I feel like it was just yesterday I was saying it was 4 months away (eek!).

So while I was home in Florida this weekend visiting the ‘rents, I put on my charming smile and asked for new running shoes. They can’t resist the “Amanda smile”, so off to Fit2Run we went!

WORKOUT PLAYLIST | Preparing for my half marathon

Parc del Guinardó

It’s important to always switch up your workout, but it’s just as important to switch up your playlist as well!

Music helps me get in the mood to pull on running shoes when I’m dreading a workout. Here are my go-to songs to get my head bobbing, my fingers snapping, and my feet running (now that I think about it, I probably look really really weird running).

I have a half marathon coming up in ONE MONTH in DC (waaaaaaa????) so I’m beginning to create a perfect running playlist! The last thing I want to do the night before the race is be up all night trying to remember what songs get me pumped…. been there, done that…

HEALTHY VACAY | 4 ways to stay fit while on vacation

working out while on vacation

I just got back from an amazing trip to the boyfriend’s family’s lake house. We lucked out with beautiful weather all weekend long and even though it took 6 hours to get there and 5 to get back home (ughs) it was completely worth it!

Some of the best things about vacation is that you can escape from the real world for a few days, ignore work emails, and enjoy your time with others. Some of the worst things is that your eating, sleeping, and workout schedule get a bit thrown off.

GYM TIME | 6 tricks to never missing a morning workout

morning workout tips

By the time I leave work around 6pm, I quickly lose motivation to head to the gym. Instead I have pjs, dinner, and wine on my mind…

After one too many missed evening gym sessions, I decided to switch up my workout routine a bit (more like I HAD to switch up my workout routine)! Now when my alarm goes off at 5:30am, I jump out of bed, wiggle into some Lululemon, and head to the gym.

How do I do it? Some days it’s more of a struggle than other days, but here are a few tricks I’ve learned that help set me up for a successful gym session!

DAILY YOGA | 30-Day Yoga Challenge

30 day yoga challenge Erin Motz

I will admit, I was never a “yoga” person. No offense if you are, I just never understood it. I always thought going for a run was a much better workout than just “stretching”.

But, a few months ago my friend convinced me to try out a yoga studio. We went to an intermediate level class and within 10 minutes the instructor had us doing inversions (aka: us on our heads with our feet in the air). That is the day I realized yoga is tough!

FIT LIFE | Daily morning workout

daily morning workout routine

We all know how important staying active is, but sometimes you can’t help it. You either get home from work late and are too exhausted to pull on your gym clothes, or your coworkers want to go out to happy hour after work (and clearly you can’t say “no” to happy hour).

On days like this I feel a bit guilty for not getting any kind of workout in, so I’ve come up with a solution! No matter if I plan to hit the gym for a five mile run after work… or if I plan to hit up happy hour… I always do a daily morning workout to get my blood pumping!

EXPLORING EUROPE | Why running is the best way to explore a new city

running in Paris

When some people go on vacation they just want to relax and sit by the pool all day with a drink in one hand and food in the other. I’m a bit different…

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely eat and drink a lot on vacation (you can’t go to Paris and not live on baguettes, croissants, and wine), but I don’t like to lay around. I think one of the best ways to explore a new city is to run the city!

PRE WORKOUT | Best pre-run foods to snack on

best pre-run snacks

You know those days when you have a really great run, vs. the days where you feel as if you are dying every extra 0.1 mile you go? Yeah, we’ve all been there. Sometimes it’s just not your day. Your legs are sore from a previous workout or you didn’t get enough sleep the night before. But what you eat before a run drastically affects it too!

It’s not good to workout on an empty stomach, but you need to make sure you fill it with foods that will help your body, not hurt it! Here are some of my go to nibbles before a run.
