You know those mornings you wake up craving something sugary? A cinnamon bun, pancakes dripping in maple syrup, or even a large bowl of Captain Crunch cereal? Well, that happens to me one too many times a week (thank goodness I don’t keep any of the above mentioned heavenly breakfast treats in my house or else I wouldn’t be able to resist them).
To try and combat my yearning for an unhealthy breakfast treat filled with empty calories (sorry cinnamon bun), I turn to spicing up my oatmeal instead! Overnight oats to the rescue!
Have you heard of overnight oats before? If you’ve been on Pinterest in the last 2 months then you will have seen dozens of recipes for it! Here’s one extra one to add to your recipe list :) And it’s a great one if you ask me! It is sure to cure your sugar craving one bite in!
Ingredients:
– 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
– 1/3 skim milk
– 1 tablespoon half and half
– 0.5 tablespoon cinnamon
– 1.5 teaspoon brown sugar
Step 1: Stir all the ingredients together in a cup and pop it in the fridge overnight :) Seriously, it’s that simple!.
Step 2: Pull it out the next morning, sprinkle some extra cinnamon on top and dive in!
Surprisingly enough I thought I wouldn’t like cold oatmeal very much, but it turns out I don’t know my tastebuds very well at all. These overnight oats were delicious!
You can double or triple the recipe if you are making it for more than one person. Luckily the boyfriend is all about scrambled eggs in the morning so I just have to make it for one :)
Sometime Monday mornings can be a bit of a downer, but with a bowl of snickerdoodle overnight oats and two cups of coffee I was jamming in my car all the way to the office with a smile on my face.
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you started your day out with something just as healthy and tasty this morning!
P.S. If you have any overnight oat recipes send them my way! I’m now hooked :)
These look amazing!! I will have to try these!!

YUM! I can 100% relate to the sugary breakfast cravings and not being able to keep certain things in the house! I would have thought that more sugar would be needed to make overnight oats sweet (I usually use a banana) so I’m really looking forward to trying this.

If you like raisins, I do a cinnamon raisin. It’s almost the exact same recipe as your snickerdoodle minus the half and half, but throw a handful of raisins in. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but the raisins get plump and juicy overnight, and I love it!

I love raisins! That sounds amazing :) And so simple since it’s only a small variation of mine! Thanks for the idea
