LATEST LISTEN | Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris

Lets Explore Diabetes with OwlsI love finding new books to read, especially when they are recommended by friends or on a “must read” booklists. I stumbled upon PureWow’s latest article, “30 Days of WOW: Best New Book for…”, and knew there would be a book on there for me.

The article had a different activity for each book. One for a good cry, your book club, a long weekend, and….. #11 – To listen to in the car: Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris.

Because of my latest obsession with audiobooks, I was immediately intrigued. The book was short, only 6.5 hours, so I downloaded it and started to listen with an open mind.

I had seen the book on a few other “good reads” lists, so even though essay books weren’t my favorite, I thought it would exceed my expectations… sadly it did not.

I am not one to bash books, but I honestly was not a fan of this particular read. Besides the politically heated stories, fowl language, and sheer confusion of the way his stories jumped around so much… I just didn’t really see the point.

I finished listening to the book in about a week. I giggled a bit during the colonoscopy story (yes… sadly that was the highlight), but other than that, I was not upset when it ended.

Did anyone else read it? What were your thoughts? Maybe I’m just not meant for dark humored, essay style books…
